DISTANCES

Ultra: 1900m swim / 90 km Cycle / 21km Run

 

How a TEAM entry (relay) works:

TEAMS are welcome to enter for the Ultra distance events (Minimum age for Ultra is 18yrs).

A team consists of 2 or 3 members. Each team member competes in one discipline i.e. 1st team member = Swim, 2nd team member = Cycle, 3rd team member = Run. The Team event works like a relay. The team gets given a timing chip which will act like a batten and will get passed onto each team member in the transition area. Along with the timing chip, the Team also get 2 x race numbers which are worn by the cyclist and by the runner. The swimmer will get an official swim cap.

 

Road Closure

This event has full road closure for the Ultra races

 

RACE BRIEFING

TBC - Compulsory for all competitors.

 

WET SUITS

A decision on wetsuits will be taken at 6am on race day, as per TSA rule

 

TRI BARS

Are allowed for both events as the events are non-drafting

 

DRAFTING

NO Drafting will be allowed in the Ultra event. Strict rules apply.

 

TIMING

Timing Chips will be provided to all athletes at registration. Athletes will be responsible for their own chip and the return of their chip on the finish line, if an athlete's chip is not returned the Athlete will be charged R200.00 for the lost / unreturned Timing Chip.

 

CUT-OFF TIMES

NEW ULTRA RACE Cut Off Time: 8hrs 5min

 

Swim: 1hr05min (8:28am)

Cycle: 4hrs (12:28pm)

Run: 3hrs (3:28pm)

Ultra Teams will get 8hrs time limit

Athletes must take note, that prize giving will commence at 3pm and competitors still out on the course will be allowed to finish and receive a medal up until 3:30pm.

 

SWIM CAPS

Competitors must swim with the OFFICIAL TYR Swim Caps provided in the goodie bags at registration.

 

TRANSITION AREA

Sunkist Grass Area (Beachfront in front of Stadium) Next to Bike & Bean Cafe

 

(Race Day only) The Transition Area will open at 5:00am by the TSA officials. Your bike, helmet, race number and swim cap will be checked before you enter. You can remove your bike from the Transition area after the last competitor has finished your race. The Transition Area will close and everyone must exit by 06h30.

 

BIKE RACKING:

Sunday 5am to 6:30am (Sharp)

 

KIT BAGS & EQUIPMENT

Competitors must remove all kit bags from the Transition area before 6:30am.

 

Outside Assistance:

No athlete will be allowed any "Special Needs" assistance by the EO or the Officials during the Sprint or Ultra race.

 

 

CARS & SUPPORTERS

NO support or spectator cars will be allowed on the Bike routes due to the Athletes safety and the roads being closed.

 

 

RUN LAPS

Ultra Race 3 Laps of 7km each (21 km). All on the beachfront Promenade. All Athletes will cross the Steel walkway bridge to finish at the MM Stadium.

 

WATER TABLE

There will be 3 Water tables on the 7km Run route and 2 Water Tables on the 5km Run route.

 

CYCLE ROUTE:

There will be 1 water table for the Sprint competitors at the 9km mark, 1km from the turn point. There will be 2 water tables for the Ultra competitors. 32GI filled Race Bottles will be provided + Water Sachets.

 

RUN ROUTE:

The Sprint race will have 2 Water Tables on the 5km Run route. There will be 3 Water tables on the Ultra 7km Run route, before athletes turn under the Tunnel to the Metal Bridge and Finish.

 

NUTRITION AT RUN WATER TABLES:

Water Sachets, 32GI Brew, 32GI Gel, Coke and Bananas will be available at ALL Run Water tables. 32GI Gel will be given to athletes in your goodie bags. If the weather is very hot, Sponges will be available at all run water tables.

Race Bottles will be provided at the Bike water tables with 32GI Brew or water and Water Sachets will be available.

 

*Rubbish must be thrown away within 100m before or after each water table.

 

If caught throwing rubbish away out of these areas, you will be disqualified.

 

ULTRA RUN LAP BANDS:

Hair bands for your wrist will be given to each Ultra Competitor at the far turn point by Blue Lagoon / Kingfisher Canoe Club. Ultra athletes must finish with 3 different coloured hair band.

 

BIKE WATER TABLE

There will be 2 water tables on the 45km bike route for the Ultra competitors.

 

Race Bottles will be provided at the Bike water tables with 32GI or water and Water Sachets will be available.

 

*Rubbish must be thrown away within 100m after each water table. If caught throwing away after this, your will be disqualified.

 

TSA DAY LICENCE

If you don't have your TSA Licence with you on the day, it is compulsory to pay for a day Licence.

 

Ultra = R100.00

 

DRUG FREE SPORT

Athlete Medication

 

Athletes must apply for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) if they are using a prohibited substance for legitimate, medically justified reasons to avoid any embarrassment for the athlete or TSA. Any athlete with a documented, legitimate medical condition may apply for TUE. Drug Free Sport will be conducting tests on a regular basis at TSA events. MINIMUM AGE

Ultra = 18 years

 

STRICT REFUNDS & TRANSFER POLICY

No Race refunds are done for any event. Athletes can transfer their pre-entry to another athlete due to a medical condition only. This will be at no extra cost and must be done before pre-entries close. Written permission as well as a signed doctors note is required. Athlete Transfers need to be done and completed 72hrs prior to pre-entries closing. Please email: events@ultratri.co.za to apply for a athlete transfer.

 

EVENT PROTECT

This event is covered by Event Protect: What this means is that if the event is cancelled for reasons outside B-Active’s control and covered under the Event Protect policy, participants will be refunded their entry fees directly. “But to make this even better, it won’t cost our participants a cent” says B-Active Director and Ultra Series owner, Damian Bradley.“ Our Triathlon events are expensive to stage and for participants to enter, so we have a large financial liability to protect. The Event Protect trademark should give our participants entering our events confidence that in the case of an event cancellation, their entry fees are protected”.

 

PRIZE MONEY

The Overall Race prize purse totals R160 000. This includes Prize money and Prizes.

 

PRIZE GIVING

Ultra prize giving - 3:30 pm

 

ALL Winners will need to be present at prize giving. 

 

All lucky draw winners will need to be present to collect their prize on the day.
